Supporting Every Stage of Your Child’s Development

Social Development

Social emotional learning is important in early childhood as it helps children develop essential behavioral and social skills they'll use throughout their lives. These skills help children navigate their emotions, build positive relationships, and communicate effectively.

Cognitive Development

Early childhood is a crucial time for children to develop essential cognitive skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making. These mental processes set the foundation for more intricate and advanced thinking as children grow.

Physical Development

Physical development in early childhood includes both fine and large motor skills. Fine motor skills are developed by using smaller muscles, like hands and fingers, for smaller tasks like writing or tying your shoes. Large motor skills use bigger muscles, such as your arms and legs, for larger activities like running or kicking a ball.

Language Development

Language development is especially significant during early childhood, as children are learning to communicate through spoken, written, and even sign language and other non-verbal forms of communication. Developing strong language skills is critical for both learning and relationship-building.

Creativity

Providing children with an environment to be creative and explore new ideas is great for their imaginations and problem-solving skills. As children express their creativity in early childhood, they build confidence and develop adaptable thinking skills that contribute to their future successes.

Research-Based Curriculum for Proven Success

Our character education curriculum teaches children important concepts such as respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, trustworthiness, self-discipline, and inclusion. These important lessons are weaved into daily activities to help your child develop these critical life skills.

Despite its name, Conscious Discipline does not involve disciplining children. Conscious Discipline is a research-based social-emotional learning curriculum designed to help children understand and manage their emotions. When children are aware of their feelings, they can communicate more effectively and respond more appropriately. Learn More.

The Creative Curriculum is a top-rated early childhood curriculum that allows children to explore different interests and themes through hands-on learning activities. The curriculum is designed to foster creativity and critical thinking skills as children investigate age-appropriate topics about the world around them.

Handwriting is a critical component for children’s fine motor and language development. New Horizon Academy has partnered with ez Write™ to incorporate a research-based handwriting curriculum that fosters great reading and writing skills, enhances cognitive and motor abilities, and supports overall academic achievement.

Our pre-kindergarten classrooms use The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation’s Kindness in the Classroom® curriculum to help children develop kind habits and become good friends. This social-emotional learning curriculum weaves literacy, math, science, motor development, music, and movement into meaningful activities that bring abstract ideas to life. Through this learning approach, children learn important values like caring, responsibility, honesty, respect, inclusiveness, and courage through hands-on experiences.

The Science of Reading is an approach based on research that explores how children’s brains learn to read most effectively. While some traditional methods are based on learning through memorization, the Science of Reading emphasizes learning through phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension.

In other words, children are taught to recognize sounds and understand how sounds make words.

By integrating the Science of Reading throughout our classrooms, our teachers are able to foster strong reading skills and nurture children’s language development.

Children will engage in a wide variety of STEAM (science, technology, engineering , art, and math) activities at New Horizon Academy. Building on the concept of STEM, STEAM incorporates the arts, integrating creativity and artistic thinking into STEM’s more analytical and critical thinking.

This holistic framework allows children to develop a broad range of skills as they explore and engage with their environment through hands-on activities.

My son has been attending New Horizon Academy for several months now and we have seen tremendous growth in his social, emotional, and cognitive skills. The curriculum is thoughtfully designed, incorporating a perfect balance of structured activities, imaginative play, and hands-on learning. We appreciate how the teachers tailor their lessons to the unique interests and abilities of each child, fostering their individual growth and creating a love for learning.

Entering Kindergarten with Confidence

New Horizon Academy pre-kindergarten program kindergarten readiness assessment resultsFrom the moment your child steps foot into a New Horizon Academy classroom, they are immersed in an environment designed to build foundational skills to prepare them for kindergarten and life beyond.

We use the Teaching Strategies® GOLD® Kindergarten Readiness Assessment to evaluate various developmental skills in the six core areas of learning: literacy, mathematics, language, cognitive, physical, and social-emotional development.

Our latest assessment results show that New Horizon Academy pre-k graduates not only meet but exceed kindergarten readiness expectations by the time they start kindergarten. These excellent results are a testament to the quality curriculum and learning experiences provided from infancy through pre-kindergarten.

Learning Through Play

As a former teacher, I am so appreciative of New Horizon Academy’s commitment to an educational curriculum. Both of my children are learning so much, and I feel confident they’ll be well ahead of the curve when they enter kindergarten.
